Fifth grades will select a Newbery Medal Winner or Honor book to read independently.The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
A list of all the winners from 1922 on is found here. You may choose a book from my classroom library, our school, library, or order it online (amazon). Students may also read it on an electronic reader.
Students must show me their choice by : Wednesday, March 21st.
Students must read the book by Monday, April 9th, the Monday after Spring Break.
